Regarding a large fire when there is material misrepresentation on the personal property claim is this enough to deny the claim as a whole with regards to the dwelling (this does not include any obligation to the mortgagee just the insured).

Without details as to what the misrepresentation was and whether or not it was prejudicial to the insurer we can't make a determination. In theory, yes, material misrepresentation is grounds for a claim denial, but you're talking about misrepresentation on a part of a claim, not the whole. What was the misrepresentation, was it truly misrepresentation or an error on the part of the insured, what's the amount involved and how serious is the misrepresentation, are there innocent co-insured's involved, etc. The details will make a difference, as will the actual policy language involved.
