Fraud of the Week
Homeowners Fraud – Alabama
Unknown
The Better Business Bureau (BBB) in Alabama has issued warnings to consumers to beware of fraudulent roofing contractors, something commonly seen as the weather warms and storms become prevalent. The common scam is as follows. A person calls or appears on an insured's doorstep, offering a free roof inspection because they're repairing a roof in the area. If the inspection is accepted, an inspector shows up to look at the roof, and if they don't find enough damage to replace the roof they may fabricate it by pulling off shingles or creating other damage. They may also show the insured pictures of a different roof altogether.
This type of fraud is common, and more so after storms have come through an area. If an insured is concerned about what the roofer found, they can get a second opinion or contact their carrier for guidance.
