Fraud of the Week

Homeowners Fraud – Minnesota

Amount – $10,000

Criminal charges have been filed against a Minnesota man for filing multiple false claims for lost wedding rings. The first claim was for two rings valued at $3,500 for which he received the policy maximum, $2,500. The man then raised the limits on his policy and claimed loss of another set of rings worth $13,000 for which he received $7,500. As part of the investigation documents submitted by the insured were shown to be forged to inflate the value of the rings. He filed another claim the following year for another set of rings for more than $10,000. At this the carrier became suspicious, denied the claim, and turned it over for investigation.
