Fraud of the Week Auto Give-up – Montana Unknown amount
A Montana man reported his vehicle as stolen to the local sheriff's office. Upon investigation, it was discovered that the vehicle had been wrecked, not stolen, and that the insured had filed a false report in order to commit insurance fraud. A deputy called to advise the insured to let him know he was likely going to be charged. The sheriff's office later received information that the man was making threats towards a specific deputy on social media, and made the statement "Now we enter trial by jury or TRIAL BY COMBAT." This did not go over well and the man was arrested and charged with a felony and faces up to ten years in prison if convicted.
