Phony Pop-up Testing
Fraud of the Week
Pop-up Testing Frauds – Kentucky
Unknown amount
A phony pop-up testing site appeared in Louisville, with some residents trying to run the fraudsters out. Workers were dressed in PPE, and collecting money and personal information from potential testees. Metro government had not been consulted before the testing site was set up, and the local government had not set up remote testing sites due to lack of test kits. One group conned a church into letting them use their parking lot, saying that they were in compliance with government standards. When the church developed some concerns about testing and the group itself, they withdrew their permission for the parking lot to be used.
