Auto Accident Fraud – South Carolina
$75,000+
James River Insurance Company, which provides coverage to Uber drivers, has filed suit against more than fifty people involved in multiple hit-and-run accidents between 2017 and 2019. The people would call for an Uber ride and the Uber vehicle would be rear-ended by another vehicle. The passengers would then go to the hospitals with injury claims that were filed with the insurance company. James River was suspicious as many of the injured parties were acquaintances, friends, neighbors, or otherwise had personal relations with each other. In at least two of the accidents the Uber drivers were involved with the scam; in one of the claims the damage to the vehicle was consistent with running into a stationary object, and not the result of a contact with a moving vehicle.
