Announced on Jan 2, 2020, Uber has selected Liberty Mutual Insurance to provide coverage for Uber drivers and passengers throughout Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Puerto Rico, Rhode Island, South Carolina, and Vermont.
Under the program, Liberty Mutual will provide specific coverages from the time an Uber driver opens the Uber app and is waiting for a trip or delivery request through the time they complete the delivery or drop off.
Liberty Mutual attributes its successful insuring of ride-hailing, vehicle-sharing, car subscription, delivery services, and autonomous vehicle companies to its dedicated sharing economy and new mobility practices.
Uber seeks to provide both drivers and riders peace of mind during trips, and Liberty Mutual hopes to fulfill that wish.
This development comes after James River canceled Uber's insurance policies at the end of 2019.
Editors Note: Uber has historically been very difficult to insure, and the details of applicable insurance have been hairy due to the nature of ride- and car-sharing app platforms.
