Accident Coverage — Slovenia,
Amount: $1.3 million
A Slovenian woman has allegedly cut off her own hand with a circular saw in order to receive insurance money as reimbursement. Her boyfriend reportedly made life and accident insurance policies for her with five different insurance companies at the end of 2018. In January he paid the first premiums and the insurance coverage was valid. Soon after, she cut off her left hand just above the wrist with a circular saw at her fathers home. Days later, the suspects filed damage claims with the five insurance companies, but did not receive any pay outs because the police were already investigating the claim. The fraudster claimed to have been sawing off tree branches when the accident occurred. Had the police not intervened, she would have received over $1.3 million, plus several hundred thousand in rent money.
