Windshield Fraud — Florida
Amount: Unknown
Florida police are investigating reports that a group of scammers have been collecting victims insurance information in order to fix broken windshields, and billing the victims insurance provider without completing any of the work. The police department has received several reports of people attempting this local insurance scam. Victims are being approached at the local Walmart, and the fraudsters have also been knocking on doors at apartment complexes to perpetrate this fraud. The police say the two women claim to be working for "At Home Auto Glass" out of Sarasota, Florida. In order to get the insurance information out of the victims, the fraudsters inform the victim that their windshield is broken and offer to fix it for free. They then collect insurance info from the victim and bill the insurance company without fixing the windshield.
