Arson Fraud — Louisiana

Amount: Unknown

A woman from Ville Platte, Louisiana has been accused of setting her home on fire to commit insurance fraud. She was booked into the county jail on a count of arson with intent to defraud after a fire occurred in her home. The Louisiana State Fire Marshal's Office and Evangeline Fire District together determined that the fire was intentionally set. Both evidence and witness statements implicated the homeowner in the setting of the fire. She states that she put a filled pan on the stove and accidentally left home with the stove on. She did not specify what she was cooking at the time. The accused eventually admitted to struggling financially and telling co-workers her plan to set her home on fire to collect insurance proceeds.
