Liberty Mutual Reinsurance, the reinsurance arm of Liberty Specialty Markets, has launched a reinsurance operation under Lloyd's registration in Mexico to serve clients in Mexico and Central America.

The operation will be led by Rosa Flores, general manager, who joined from agribusiness technical consultancy Green Mex, where she was chief executive officer.

Prior to Green Mex, she worked for Willis Towers Watson as head of treaty for Mexico, where she spent eight years in total.

Ms. Flores has over 18 years' experience in the Mexican market, specializing in agribusiness and catastrophic perils.

She reports to José Ernesto Ospina, Latin America regional manager in Colombia, and will work with the underwriting team in Europe and Colombia.

The Mexico reinsurance team will provide property, casualty, and specialty treaty reinsurance solutions, which will be underwritten by Liberty Mutual Re in Europe.

Miguel Martinez, head of business development at Liberty Mutual Re, said, “Mexico is the largest reinsurance market in Latin America. Liberty Mutual Re did not have local representation for treaty reinsurance business until now, and establishing a local operation within Lloyd's shows our commitment to our Mexican clients and the importance we place on this market. It will add to our presence in Brazil and Colombia in the region. We have known Rosa for a number of years and are delighted that she has joined LM Re to be our local representative for the Mexican and Central American Market.”
