Life Insurance Fraud — Oregon
Amount: Over $350K
An Oregon author is being accused of murdering her husband, a local and popular chef at the Oregon Culinary Institute. The investigators believe that she planned the murder for years and purchased an untraceable gun kit in preparation for his killing. The detectives believe that she may have planned the shooting before she wrote an article, published in 2011, with the telling title “How to Murder Your Husband.” Twelve search warrants were executed, upturning several revelations about the potential motive behind this crime. Indeed, five motives for murder are discussed in detail in the essay mentioned above. The essay also mentions seven methods of murder which should be considered by a wife seeking to murder her husband.
The Chef was found shot on June 2 in a kitchen at the Oregon Culinary Institute in Portland. Students arriving for class found him and called the authorities. The fraudster told police of a pistol she owned, but the two bullets that killed the Chef did not come from that gun. The police later discovered that she bought a gun kit and accessories online to make a similar but untraceable version of the pistol. The bullets that killed the Chef matched the gun and accessories bought by the fraudster. She also lied about her location the morning of the murder, saying she was at home when surveillance video showed that she was driving on a road outside of the culinary institute just before his body was found. Investigators say she told them she had a $40,000 life insurance policy on her husband but later discovered that she was the beneficiary on several policies with an overall value of more than $350,000. She has pleaded not guilty to murder in the case.
