In the spring of 1894, a community of farmers came together in a barn in White Salmon, Washington, to start a fire insurance cooperative to serve their local community. They called themselves the Washington Fire Relief Association.
That grew into Grange Insurance Association (“GIA”), which has just celebrated its 125th anniversary.
Headquartered in Seattle, Washington, GIA is a mutual property-casualty company operating in California, Colorado, Idaho, Oregon, Washington, and Wyoming. It offers farm insurance, home insurance, and auto insurance, among other things.
