The Iowa Insurance Division has issued a cease and desist order for THPCA, also known as Total Home Protection, based in Pennsylvania, and Ronald Seruya of Oakhurst, New Jersey.
The division said in a statement that the order stemmed from a consumer complaint alleging that THPCA failed to perform under its contract and that THCPA made extensive unregistered sales in Iowa.
“The Iowa Insurance Division always recommends Iowans double-check to make sure the person and company they are dealing with are properly licensed,” Iowa Insurance Division spokesman Chance McElhaney said. “In this case, unlicensed residential service contracts were sold to many Iowans by Ronald Seruya and Total Home Protection. Any Iowan that may have also purchased this unlicensed product should contact our office immediately at 515-776-0224.”
The division said that its investigation uncovered that THPCA sold at least 176 residential service contracts without a license in of Iowa. Nevada and California also have sanctioned THPCA, the division noted.
