Workers Compensation — Florida

Amount: Unknown

In an effort called Operation Hot Water, 20 individuals were arrested for their participation in a workers' compensation insurance fraud ring involving unlicensed contractors in Pasco County Florida. The Pasco County Sheriff's Office, the Bureau of Insurance Fraud, the Department of Business and Professional Regulation and the Pasco County Building Department conducted a collaborative sting operation that caught contractors who had agreed to perform work without a license and without workers' compensation insurance coverage. The 20 individuals who were arrested, were charged with contracting without a license and failure to secure workers' compensation coverage, which may result in sentences of up to 5 years in prison per count. Florida's Chief Financial Officer, Jimmy Patronis, has lead his office to make more than 400 arrests for workers' compensation fraud, and pledges to arrest anyone attempting to perform work without workers' compensation coverage.
