Fraud of the Week

Auto Fraud — California
Amount: Unknown
A woman who has been accused of striking and killing a pregnant woman and her unborn child, and then fleeing the scene of the accident, pleaded not guilty last week to two charges each of manslaughter and insurance fraud. The pregnant victim was walking in a cross-walk when the suspect drove through a stop light at high speeds, striking and killing both the victim and her unborn baby. The police allege that the woman abandoned her vehicle at the scene of the hit-and-run while it was on fire, and subsequently reported the car stolen. Someone from another car picked up the female driver of the vehicle soon after the accident, and drove away. Evidence from the disabled car, left at the scene of the accident, has helped to identify the woman as the main suspect in this case.
