Life Insurance Fraud — Georgia
Amount: Unknown
An insurance agent in Georgia has been indicted, and charged with attempt to and conspiring to commit mail fraud. The agent and two accomplices each obtained life insurance policies on a 69-year-old housekeeper who was murdered in 2014. The housekeeper, Anita Fox, was the mother of one of the two accomplices. She was stabbed to death in 2014. The agent had written five life-insurance policies on Fox in 2007 and 2008. The scheme was orchestrated to defraud the life insurance companies and obtain monetary benefit. The three fraudsters each face up to 20 years in prison, and prosecutors have asked that their restitution matches whatever payout each individual fraudulently gained.
