Life Insurance Fraud — Florida
Amount: $1 Million
A Florida widow has been arrested by Tallahassee police for the first degree murder of her husband in order to recover insurance money. Her husband went missing in the year 2000, and his remains were recovered in January of 2018. A Florida Department of Law Enforcement officer stated that over 3,000 hours have been invested into this case since they began investigating it in 2004. Her husband went missing in 2000 during a fishing trip. The theory that he had fallen out of the boat, drowned, and his body was devoured by alligators was later debunked.
The case seemed suspicious since the man went missing. Soon before his disappearance, his friend helped him execute a 1 million dollar insurance policy. Five years after the disappearance, the friend married the man's widow. The friend was recently arrested, and the body of the man was found the day after the arrest. Once the body was recovered police had more evidence of homicide, and the widow was arrested soon after.
The widow is facing charges of first-degree murder, conspiracy to commit murder, and one charge of acting as an accessory after the fact. She was booked into jail and is being held without bail.
