False Claim Fraud — Texas
Amount: $2,500-30,000
A female candidate for the Lubbock Independent School District board of trustees has been accused by police of fabricating a racially charged burglary two years ago in order to recover thousands of dollars from her insurance company in fraudulent claims. The detectives believe that she staged a break-in at her home on August 7, 2016, and lied about several items missing from her home and vandalism, including several racial slurs that were etched into her furniture. The racial slurs elevated the crime from a burglary to a racially charged burglary, and are also what sparked suspicion in a Lubbock police detective that the burglary was not legitimate. The veteran detective thought the vandalism was unusual because the burglar stole several items from the home before vandalizing the furniture by carving racial slurs and “#WLM” which the detectives believed meant “White Lives Matter”. The detective believed this was strange because carving slurs into furniture would take an extended period of time, time that burglars wouldn't normally spend at a crime scene. Investigators also found no evidence of forced entry, and found only one room to be ransacked. Only furniture was defaced, the walls were all left alone.
She was arrested on a state felony charge which can be punished with as little as six months up to two years in jail. She was arrested prior to the election occurring on May 5th.
