Glass Coverage Includes Plexiglas under PAP?

Does coverage for “glass” breakage under personal auto physical damage insurance include Plexiglas?

New York Subscriber

The answer to this question depends on whether one follows the scientific, technical meaning of glass (which does not include Plexiglas and similar plastics) or the broader definition of glass as “a substance resembling glass especially in hardness and transparency” (Webster's Ninth New Collegiate Dictionary).

Most dictionaries show both definitions. Following the rule that insureds are entitled to the definition most favorable to coverage, breakage of Plexiglas would be covered under the “breakage of glass” provisions of the personal auto policy.
