Fraud of the Week
April 2, 2018
Life Insurance Fraud — Georgia
Amount: $600,000
A trial is underway in the case of an Atlanta attorney is accused of killing his wife for $600,000 in life insurance money. Recently a financial expert testified about the declining financial status of the attorney in the months leading up to the death of his wife. The defense team pointed out that the wife was giving him money every week, and he needed her to live in order to receive that money so his finances wouldn't get worse. The prosecution argued that that was not the case because, although he had some lean time between her death and the life insurance payout, he also received almost $300,000 from her 401(k). The attorney's wife was shot while they were driving together in their SUV. The attorney claimed that the shooting was an accident.
