Workers' Compensation Fraud—New York
Amount: $7,581
A New York man has been charged with grand larceny for filing a false workers' compensation claim. The man was injured while working for Countrywide Carting, a garbage collection company. He filed for workers' compensation benefits, claiming continuously that he had not engaged in any work activity for any employer or for his own business from the time of the accident until June 2017. In actuality, the man had opened a meat market in March 2017 and performed garbage removal services during April 2017. Due to these misrepresentations, he was paid over $7,500 in compensation for which he was not entitled.
