Auto Fraud—Washington
A man in Washington recently pleaded guilty to attempted insurance fraud and obstructing a law enforcement officer. According to the investigation the fraudster cancelled the insurance on his 2002 Acura because he was trying to sell it. Fourteen days later, he got into an accident with another vehicle. The next day, he reinstated his insurance policy, and two days later filed a claim stating that the Acura was damaged while parked overnight in the parking lot of his apartment. The other person involved in the collision filed a claim for the damage to her car. The claim included the fraudster's license plate number and the actual date of the accident. He was charged with insurance fraud and identity theft and failed to appear in court on those charges. He spent almost a year on Kriedlers Insurance Fraud Most Wanted list before he was apprehended.
