In Memorium Susan Massmann

July 17, 2017

Susan Massmann, CPCU, Managing Editor, Electronic Publications has passed away after a brief and sudden illness. She was with National Underwriter for twenty years.

Susan began her career with the National Underwriter as a paralegal, and due to her excellent writing and editing skills, was promoted to editor, then managing editor of electronic publications. Author and editor of many publications, including Closing the Gap, the Condominium Insurance Coverage Guide, Commercial Property Coverage Guide, Business Income Coverage Guide, and Businessowners Policy Coverage Guide, Susan will be deeply missed.

She had a way of understanding the system and its quirks better than anyone else, and could coax it into working when everything else had failed. She was an excellent writer and editor, and was very dedicated to FC&S, the coverage guides, and making them the best products possible. Over the years she answered many, many coverage questions from subscribers on commercial property, directors and officers, and other coverages.

While quiet in the office, Susan was quite the adventurer with a propensity of living to the fullest. She loved her niece and nephew very much and traveled with them frequently. She visited many states and several countries and especially liked historical locations that tied to her ancestry. Susan also volunteered a lot of her time: she taught English in Botswana as part of the Peace Corp, she was an active member in The Daughters of the American Revolution, she volunteered in her church, and before her illness was working to help with the USO.

Susan had a quick wit and kind heart. She will be sorely missed.
