Ex-NFL False Claim Fraud — Minnesota

Amount: $4,780

This week a former NFL player has come under scrutiny for a false claim involving his AFT Championship ring. In 2013, he claimed the Championship ring had been stolen on a flight. He subsequently made a claim for nearly $5,000. According to investigators, he has had the ring the entire time. North Star Mutual Insurance Company filed a fraud complaint with the state fraud bureau in the summer of 2014, after the former NFL player's ex-wife called the insurance company to inform them that he had lied about the ring being stolen and continues to wear the ring. She claims that she did not sign the check the insurance company provided for $4,780, and did not know that he cashed the check. Investigators located a photo on Facebook dated July 15, 2015 that shows the former NFL player wearing the ring that had supposedly been stolen.
