YouTube Exposed False Claim Fraud — Oklahoma Amount: $32,420.61
June 12, 2017
In August 2015 an Oklahoma man filed a claim for an accident that he claimed happened after he had a blowout while driving on Highway 77 in Lexington, Oklahoma. He claimed that the blowout caused him to lose control and hit a center barrier destroying the front end of his new 2015 Ford Mustang. Farmers Insurance, his insurer, deemed the Mustang a total loss and paid out the rest of the lien and issued the man a check for the amount he had paid for the vehicle.
In January 2017, Farmers found a video on YouTube that depicted the car crash that actually happened at Thunder Valley Raceway, a quarter mile track, which hosts hot-rod and drag-car races in Lexington, Oklahoma. You can view that video by following the link below. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hRrRdF1RbVU. Members of the Attorney General's office interviewed the towing service that removed the vehicle from the raceway. The tow truck company admitted to picking up the vehicle and towing it to the pit area of the fraudster. When asked why he didn't disclose to Farmers that the accident had occurred while drag racing, the fraudster said “they didn't ask”, but he eventually admitted to having an idea that the insurance company would not cover the crash. He turned himself in and bonded out.
