Workers Compensation Fraud —New York
Amount: $39,850
A Kentucky woman plead guilty to a felony in New York for stealing almost $40,000 of workers compensation her mother was receiving that was meant for her mother. She was arrested in Kentucky and extradited to New York for a charge in Orange County Court. Her mother had been deceased for several years. Her mother who had been injured on the job as a nurse in 1997 and collected on her workers compensation claim successfully for fourteen years, passed away in 2011. She was collecting $400 per week of compensation. Her daughter continued cashing the checks into her mother's bank account for two full years after her mother passed away, and used the money to pay for general household expenses, bills, restaurant tabs, and special smoking devices from India.
