Fraud of the Week
April 24, 2017
Workers Compensation Fraud—Ohio
Amount: $328,000
This week's fraud is a local one for the FC&S staff. Last week a Cincinnati woman pled guilty in federal court to workers compensation fraud. She took workers compensation refunds from an insurance company she worked for and faces up to twenty-three years in prison for her fraud scheme.
She worked for the Sheakley Group in the early 2010s and came up with a fraud scheme that involved wiring stolen funds from her employer's account into an account belonging to a company she owned called Amerihealth and Life Solutions. Along with the embezzlement, she also failed to report the funds she received through her fraud on her taxes and reported false expenses for her company Amerihealth for three years of taxes. She will be face sentencing at a later date.
