Disability Fraud—New York
Amount: $790,800
A retired NYPD Internal Affairs lieutenant was recently photographed riding several roller coasters while gaining income through NYPD disability pension and social security disability insurance. After an elevator plummeted in a Harlem building, the former cop claimed back injuries that hindered his ability to carry things, play sports, stand or sit for long periods of time, bend over, and pick up his children. He sued the elevator company and received a settlement. He filed, and was approved, for disability pension. In his social security benefit paperwork he also reported that he suffered from depression, panic attacks, and fear of crowds that was exacerbated by the 9/11 attacks, which he denounced in later divorce proceedings. There have been reports of this retired cop doing home renovation work for his friends, playing basketball on his home basketball court, and recently riding many high-adrenaline roller coasters. Criminal proceedings are likely to soon follow.
