Accident Fraud—New York
Amount: $34,604
A Rochester woman was arrested for charges of defrauding the workers compensation system of over $34,000 in insurance benefits. She began receiving workers compensation benefits in 2002 after allegedly suffering knee and leg injuries after a slip-and-fall incident that occurred in the parking lot of her place of employment, a fast-food restaurant. Since she began to receive workers compensation benefits, she has maintained a job for at least eight of the fourteen years, while still receiving government compensation. She started working again, while still receiving benefits, in 2008, and between 2008 and 2015, she falsely represented her employment status to her insurance carrier in writing on four separate occasions. She was arraigned in Rochester City Court and will appear in front of the court in the coming weeks to receive her verdict.
