Crop Insurance Fraud—North Carolina

A North Carolina man has been sentenced to eleven years in prison, three years of supervised release, and over $2.5 million in restitution for crop insurance fraud. He pleaded guilty to close to twenty charges including conspiracy to defraud the Federal Crop Insurance Corporation, The Farm Service Agency, falsifying, aiding and abetting other to falsify insurance claims, and mail fraud. The man produced crops which he sold in the names of others, then filed claims that the crops were lost due to natural disasters.
