Government Entities Mutual, Inc. (“GEM”), a protected cell reinsurance captive domiciled in the District of Columbia, has appointed Andrew Halsall as its new president and chief executive officer.
Mr. Halsall takes over from John Foehl, who retired from GEM at the end of 2015.
“Andrew is a strategic visionary, one with a wealth of industry knowledge and demonstrated business acumen,” said Dean Boes, the chairman of the GEM board. “The board is confident that his leadership will take GEM to the next level.”
The company said that, in his new role, Mr. Halsall will develop and execute strategies to realize GEM's vision for growth and sustained financial strength. He will also provide leadership to all organizational functions and ensure that their activities are in the best interest of its members.
Mr. Halsall most recently served as chief of staff and reinsurance restructuring officer for American International Group, as well as in leadership roles with KPMG and Marsh & McLennan. He has more than 25 years of experience in the insurance industry, both domestically and internationally, where he gained extensive knowledge and proficiency in establishing reinsurance strategy. He earned a B.A. in risk management from Glasgow Caledonian University in Glasgow, U.K., and has earned the Associate of the Chartered Insurance Institute and the Fellow of Institute of Risk Management designations.
“This is an exciting time for GEM,” said Mr. Halsall, “and I am looking forward to helping execute its vision for the future.”
