Policy Inception Fraud 2– New Hampshire
Amount: $1,857.09
An individual has been charged and convicted of felony insurance fraud for obtaining a policy after an accident occurred, then calling in the accident later and claiming it happened after policy inception. At 7:20 a.m. the individual rear-ended another driver and did not have insurance. At 7:51a.m. she purchased a policy online through Progressive. The next day the individual called in the accident claiming that it had occurred at 10:20 a.m. When Progressive talked to the other driver, she said the individual called and asked her to lie about the time of the accident. The other driver could prove the time since she had texted someone about the accident at 7:23 a.m. When contacted again by Progressive, the individual said she had gone to work and then left, and the accident occurred on her way back. When interviewed by an insurance department investigator the individual confessed to lying to Progressive. She was sentenced to twelve months in jail, suspended on good behavior.
