Michael R. Halsband has joined Drinker Biddle & Reath LLP as a member of the firm's insurance transactional and regulatory team. He will reside in the New York City office.

Mr. Halsband has 25 years of experience in the insurance and reinsurance industry. His transactional work is focused on complex structured reinsurance transactions, products, and entities; insurance-linked securities (“ILS”); sidecar and cat convergence fund formation and management; and distressed portfolio run-off administration and strategies. He also advises clients on corporate and regulatory matters.
Mr. Halsband was the founding senior executive and president of the capital markets and ILS convergence initiative at Sirius Group, where he was principally responsible for development and launch of convergence strategy, design, and structuring of third-party institutional cat platform. Prior to joining Sirius, Mr. Halsband was the director of capital markets and treasury solutions at Deutsche Bank, engaged in the origination, structuring, execution, and marketing of a range of ILS transactions.
Before Deutsche Bank, Mr. Halsband was a vice president at Goldman Sachs and responsible for the origination, structuring, execution, and marketing of syndicated sidecars and ILS transactions. Preceding his time in investment banking, Mr. Halsband was North America general counsel at Alea Group and insurance and corporate regulatory counsel at Centre Group.
Mr. Halsband earned his J.D. from Rutgers University School of Law – Newark and his bachelor's degree from Muhlenberg College.
