Delivery Coverage under the BAP
February 9, 2015
Many businesses such as restaurants, delis, and pizza places deliver. Does the non-owned auto coverage under the BAP protect the insured owner if he has an auto accident when delivering items? Does the category (what is being delivered) impact the answer; as an example, a liquor store delivering wines for the holidays?

As long as the vehicle is a covered auto by using the correct designation symbol under the BAP, the insured has coverage while making deliveries. It makes no difference policy-wise what is being delivered. This is subject to the insurer's individual underwriting philosophy since insurers can exclude risk exposures that they are unwilling to cover.
Using your example, there is no liquor liability exclusion in the standard BAP, but of course, the particular insurer could add an exclusion through an endorsement if it chooses to do so.
