We have just come from a meeting with one of our companies that is ISO-based. They were discussing an endorsement that is associated with Sprinkler Systems and other Protective Devices—the Protective Safeguards Endorsement form, IL 04 15 04 98. It basically says that if your protective system is disabled more than forty-eight hours and you know about it and if you have a loss, the company will not pay the claim. My two questions are this: (1) is this automatically used by all ISO-based companies, or is this a company-to-company item; and (2) does this also apply to automatic fire suppression systems in restaurants over cooking equipment?

Form IL 04 15 was withdrawn by ISO when the commercial property program was revised in 2012. It was replaced by CP 04 11.

The ISO rules pertaining to CP 04 11 state that if protective devices or services are required, the clause or warranty specified by the rate publication must be added to the policy. So, at least for ISO companies, it must be added to the policy if the carrier requires the insured to maintain protective devices or services.

Symbol P-5 on the form applies to automatic commercial cooking exhaust and extinguishing systems installed on cooking appliances and having a hood, grease removal device, duct system, and wet chemical fire extinguishing equipment. This symbol was not found on the IL 04 15 form, but both contain Symbol P-9, which allows a description of a device to be added to the schedule.
