The American Insurance Association (“AIA”), a property-casualty insurance trade organization, has named Amanda Greenwold Wise vice president and chief counsel for federal affairs. Ms. Wise joined AIA from the law firm Debevoise & Plimpton, LLP. She also has served for more than a decade at the U.S. Department of Treasury.

“Amanda is an ideal fit for AIA,” said Leigh Ann Pusey, AIA's president and chief executive officer. “Her time as lead counsel to insurance officials at the Department of Treasury makes her uniquely suited to advise our members on vital issues like Dodd-Frank Act implementation. We welcome her to AIA and look forward to benefiting from her experiences in both the public and private sectors.”

“I am thrilled to be joining AIA as vice president and chief counsel for federal affairs,” Ms. Wise said. “After a long career in government and spending some time in private practice, I am eager to work with AIA's members as well as regulators to promote regulatory efficiency and marketplace availability of insurance.”

From 2000-2012, Ms. Wise served as senior counsel in the Department of Treasury's Office of the General Counsel, Banking and Finance. She assisted with the development of legal and policy direction for the office, as well as its interactions with the Financial Stability Oversight Council (“FSOC”), and helped build out the newly created Federal Insurance Office. She was involved in the drafting of insurance provisions in the Dodd-Frank Act and provided counsel on the Terrorism Risk Insurance Program.

From 2011-2012, Ms. Wise worked at the FSOC in the Office of the Independent Member with Insurance Expertise, where she assisted the member with his work pertaining to the Dodd-Frank Act.

Most recently, Ms. Wise served as counsel at Debevoise & Plimpton, where she advised and assisted clients in dealing with various government agencies, members of Congress, and the Federal Reserve.
