Aflac Incorporated has appointed Audrey Boone Tillman as the company's general counsel, replacing Joey Loudermilk. Mr. Loudermilk, who announced his pending retirement in February, will remain with Aflac until the end of the year as a senior advisor.

Ms. Tillman joined Aflac in January 1996 as a member of the legal department and was promoted to second vice president in September 1997. She was promoted to vice president and senior associate counsel of the legal division in September 2000. Her work as legal counsel to the human resources division led to her promotion to senior vice president and director of human resources in August 2001 and ultimately to her current position of executive vice president of corporate services in 2008.

Before joining Aflac, Ms. Tillman served as an associate professor at North Carolina Central University School of Law. From 1990 to 1993, she was an associate with the Smith, Helms, Mulliss and Moore law firm in Greensboro, North Carolina. She also served as a federal judicial law clerk to Judge Richard C. Erwin of the U.S. District Court for North Carolina.

“Audrey is a respected, trusted, and valued member of the Aflac family. Since joining Aflac, she has consistently demonstrated fantastic leadership skills and her personal standards of ethics are beyond reproach. It is a privilege to have someone of Audrey's dedication and possessing her tremendous legal skills in this key role, serving our employees, policyholders, and shareholders,” said Aflac Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Dan Amos.

Ms. Tillman is a member of the State Bar of Georgia, the North Carolina State Bar, and the Bar of the District of Columbia, and is a past chair of the corporate law section of the National Bar Association. She served as a director-at-large for the Society for Human Resource Management and on Georgia Governor Sonny Perdue's Workforce Development Task Force, part of the Commission for a New Georgia.

In 2013, she was selected by The Network Journal as one of its 25 Influential Black Women in Business.

Named one of the Top 100 Blacks in Corporate America by Black Professionals magazine for two consecutive years, Ms. Tillman also has received the Office Depot Visionary Award, which recognizes dedication, leadership ability and commitment to achieving business success, shaping the direction of the community, and helping to improve the lives of women.

Ms. Tillman holds a B.A. in political science from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and a J.D. from the University of Georgia School of Law.

Mr. Loudermilk joined Aflac in 1983 as head of the company's then newly formed legal department. In 1988, he assumed responsibility for governmental relations. In February 1989, he became treasurer for Aflac's political action committee and was appointed senior vice president and corporate counsel for Aflac in 1989. In 1991 he was promoted to general counsel and in 2000 he became an executive vice president of the company.

“For more than 30 years I've worked with Joey Loudermilk, a dedicated family man and someone who works tirelessly for his community. He is a dear friend and a consummate professional who has made a lasting impression on all of us who know and work with him, and we are all the better for it,” said Mr. Amos.
