GKLL Coverage under Symbol 30
December 5, 2013
Our insured is an auto shop with a garage policy. The insured has garage operations coverage and symbols 28, 29, 32 for liability. However the insured does not have GKLL coverage or symbol 30. The insured was working on a customer's vehicle when the vehicle caught fire. Specifically, the vehicle was on a lift and the insured was installing a trailer hitch when the vehicle caught fire. Would there be coverage for the customer's vehicle on this garage policy, or does the insured need GKLL or symbol 30?
Iowa Subscriber
The garage policy has an exclusion for property damage to property in the insured's care, custody or control. The way around this exclusion is the use of symbol 30 for garagekeepers liability coverage since that symbol designates autos left with the named insured for service or repair as covered autos. So, if your insured does not have symbol 30 and GKLL, there is not going to be coverage for this loss under the garage form.
