Duty to Notify the Police
April 2, 2012
Our insured's business was burglarized; copper welding leads were stolen, and the building was damaged. The insured called the police but did not allow them to come because they did not want “people to see the police.” The property form indicates the police must be notified. Do you feel calling the police met the policy requirement?
South Carolina Subscriber
The insured did not meet the requirement of informing the police. The point of the requirement is for the police to investigate the incident, not merely to be called and turned away before actually showing up.
