Certificates of Insurance and Insureds
August 18, 2011
My question is concerning the Acord 25 Certificate of Liability. We have an insured with an HO-3 contract. The insured's resident son is renting a banquet hall in his name for his marriage reception. Who should be listed on the Acord 25 as the insured? Do we list the parents who are the named insureds or do we list the son who is an insured by definition under the policy? If we are to list the parents as the insured, could we list the son's name in the description area of the Acord 25 with wording such as: Issued certificate of insurance for hall rented by John Doe (resident relative of the named insured listed above), or something similar. What is the best way to handle these common requests for certificates of liability for insureds under the policy who are not the named insureds?

The named insured should be listed on the Acord 25 as insured; then in the description area you can list the son and the situation. While the son is an insured by definition, the policy is issued to the parents, and that should be shown on the form.
