Employee Definition and Interns

Under the ISO business auto policy, is an intern for a college or school administration considered an employee of the insured?

Since the auto policy does not offer much guidance with its definition of employee, we have to check the dictionary definition. An employee is defined as one who works for another, usually for wages or a salary. If the intern is being paid and is under the direction of the college or school administration as to his activities for the college or school, he would be considered an employee. There may be some restrictions or further guidance based on the particular state law where the school or college is located, but other than this, the BAP would consider the intern to be an employee for insurance coverage purposes.
