Where in the policy should we put additional electricity costs to dry the dwelling from a water loss resulting from fans used and possibly colder than normal setting of the A/C unit? We have been paying such costs under ALE coverage. I am thinking it may be covered under E. Additional Coverages – 2. Reasonable Repairs.

ALE is so the insured can maintain his normal standard of living; drying out the house is part of the repair, not increased living expenses the way a hotel or meals out is. Reasonable repairs is to protect property from further damage; again, drying out the house is part of the repair function, not prevention from further damage. Putting tarp over the hole in the roof is preventing further damage. The costs to run fans and have the air conditioner at lower than normal temperature is part of the repair of the house; the insured should be able to produce utility bills that quantify the difference.
