Sign “Attached” to Building by Electrical Line?

March 1, 2010

I've read the definition of “attached” in the dictionary and question whether an electric sign that is mounted on a pole and located about five feet from the insured building would be considered as an attached sign based on the electrical line connecting the two. What are your thoughts regarding whether the sign would be just an outdoor sign or a “sign attached to the building”?

It is our opinion that a sign plugged into a building by an electrical line would not be considered attached. The sign itself would need to somehow be affixed to the building for it to be considered attached, as opposed to just being plugged in.
