Non-resident Non-related Named Insureds
November 18, 2009
What is the proper way to insure a vehicle jointly owned by two non-married, non-related individuals who do not live in the same household? The vehicle is jointly owned by an individual and his non-resident significant other. Is it up to the company to decide if they will allow two non-resident, non-related named insureds or would we simply write the policy with one named insured and add the other as an additional insured on that vehicle?

The PAP makes any person using the covered auto an insured so it seems there would be no need for any sort of additional insured endorsement anyway. We would advise to just try to have the insurer name both people as named insureds even though they are not living in the same household.
But, ultimately, it would be up to the insurer.
