Our insured has an HO 00 03 04 91. Recently, some guns and equipment, such as telescopic gun sights, cases, and ammunition, were stolen from his home. Our problem is that the insurer is including the gun sights and other equipment in the sublimit of $2000 coverage for theft of guns. We contend this applies only to guns, and not to the other equipment.

You are correct. The $2000 sublimit in the homeowners form is for theft of guns. If the authors of the policy had wanted to limit payment for the theft of gun sights, ammunition, etc., it would have been a simple matter to include such wording as "guns…including their equipment." Anything that is not a gun should be covered, subject to the policy deductible.
