Pair/Set Clause Question
Our insured installed a pair of sconces and one fell and broke. The claimant is seeking replacement, but the sconces can only be purchased as a pair. Do we owe the cost to replace the pair?

The ISO pair/set clause states that the carrier has the option to repair/replace any part of the pair to its value before the loss, or pay the difference in actual cash value of the property before and after the loss. If the sconces are sold only as a pair, then the value of the remaining one is close to nil. Therefore, the difference in value before and after is pretty much going to be the value of a new pair. But the carrier can replace or pay the difference it's the carrier's call.
