BOP Deductible Application under One Occurrence
Our insured has a BOP policy, which covers some scheduled tools and equipment and some blanket tools and equipment. Each shows a $500 deductible. If there were a loss involving one scheduled item and one blanketed item, would we impose two $500 deductibles or one $500 deductible? What if a building with a $1,000 deductible and the contents inside it with a $500 deductible were lost in the same occurrence? My gut feeling was that we would only impose one deductible (the larger of the two) because it was all one occurrence, but I couldn't find clear policy language spelling that out.

The building and personal property coverage form's deductible provision states that the deductible applies only once per occurrence. Unfortunately, the BOP does not contain the same wording. However, it is still our opinion that only one deductible would apply per occurrence on the BOP as well. The BOP does not say that more than one deductible per occurrence will be taken either, so the benefit of the doubt goes to the insured.
