The insured was passing a river to gain access to the office and the unit turned off. It was confirmed later that the unit sustained water damages due to damage by water. Would this be covered under the business auto policy or does the mechanical breakdown exclusion apply?

This would be a covered loss under the terms of the BAP if the insured has the appropriate cause of loss coverage for the vehicle. The mechanical breakdown exclusion applies to a loss caused by a mechanical breakdown but does not apply when that loss is caused by an other loss that is covered. In other words, the water caused the breakdown so that exclusion is not applicable.
