Total Pollution Exclusion Endorsement Question
There is an exclusionary endorsement, CG 21 98, that applies to pollution. What is the intent of this endorsement?

CG 21 98, total pollution exclusion endorsement, is meant to modify the products/completed operations liability coverage form, CG 00 37. The standard CGL form, CG 00 01, does have a pollution exclusion on it, but it does allow for some coverage under certain conditions for a pollution claim arising out of the insured's products and completed operations. CG 00 37 did not have a pollution exclusion of any kind on it, so CG 21 98 is meant to make that point clear; CG 00 37 does not intend to apply to any type of pollution claim.
Since CG 00 01 does allow for some completed operations claims, some people may have tried to infer that CG 00 37 should offer the pollution coverage also, since it applies to products/completed operations claims. But, ISO wanted to clarify the point that there is no coverage for a pollution claim under CG 00 37, and endorsement CG 21 98 is the tool used for that purpose.
